General Information

The Force Recon is a Tier 4 Infantry, unlocked by reaching player level 47.

Weapons

Force Recons slowly fire their rifles, dealing single-target ballistic damage.

Usage In Combat

Force Recons are a step up from Riflemen and Machine Gunners, and can be deceptively powerful due to their surprisingly high stats for the same amount of space. Given that infantry begins to fall off due to the prevalence of splash threats like Hind, Howitzer, as well as ranged ones like Sniper, Force Recons can be extremely useful for players to establish dominance at this stage of the game. They can be virtually used in any role as their predecessors to deal massive amounts of accumulated DPS, but work best with Heavy Vehicles like tanks, as the provide excellent cover against airborne threats and also have an edge versus enemy Heavy Vehicles that emerge on defense. They additionally get a notable mention due to their spot due to Stryker IFVs (FOB 4-7) and BMPs (FOB 8) being able to spawn five of them on destruction with the appropriate equipment. This strategical insertion allows them to distract unsuspecting defenders and possibly inflict heavy damage, which further accentuates their near-irreplaceable role, even if they are not included in Light Vehicle platoons.

Force Recons' immense power are only held back by the issue of obsolescence. Although bigger units tend to be less flexible, they compensate with stats, mobility, or both. Force Recons are too slow, and as such are immediately invalidated in fast platoons. Helicopters like the AH-64E Guardian and KA-50 Black Shark don't benefit from their company at all, while Light Vehicle platoons centered around delivering mobile DPS require too much micromanagement. Even considering those featuring all Stryker IFVs or BMPs, five of them simply couldn't compensate for the destruction of their carrier vehicle, especially since BMPs could opt to carry powerful AGS Team units instead for extra stats. In Heavy Vehicle platoons, Force Recons are less punishing to use, but players who have them unlocked also have access to the Merkava IVm to tank damage (320 range), GMLRS (400 range) for artillery support, and S1 Pantsir (500 range) to snipe aerial defenders, by which point the Force Recons' lower range makes them rather awkward in practice. Defensively, while Force Recons are indeed threatening in large quantities and can take down targets just as quickly, the Sniper tends to be a far better choice due to having a whopping 400 range that allows them to engage targets without taking fire. As a final nail in the coffin, Force Recon's build cost is a huge jump from previous infantry units. Considering how metal could be better spent elsewhere, players should only invest in them for their associated units and avoid actually building any.

Trivia

  • As their name implies, Force Recons are directly based on the eponymous USMC unit, and may be in fact former members who now work for players as mercenaries.
  • Contrary to their description, Force Recons are unable to avoid direct hits, and simply survive by virtue of having higher health. This however does clarify how they manage to withstand more damage than Machine Gunners or Riflemen in-universe.
