Fixed-Wing Aircraft, known simply as Fixed-Wing, FW, Air or Aircraft, is one of the main unit categories in War Commander: Rogue Assault.

General Information

  • All Fixed-Wing Aircraft are classified as aircraft, separate from Helicopters. Any bonuses against "Aircraft" do not apply to Helicopters and vice versa. Similarly, SAM and Heavy SAM Turrets target "Aircraft", but not Helicopters.
  • They occupy their own section in the Platoon, with only two slots to share.
  • All types of Fixed-Wing Aircraft vary wildly in behavior, but the one common point is their limited operational period on the field which causes them to leave eventually, should they survive. The specifics of which are dependent on the aircraft in question. Once an aircraft departs successfully, several seconds must pass before the cooldown timer appears. Until this timer expires, the aircraft cannot be called again.
  • Aircraft have distinct targeting types when used for attacks:
    • Drones circle a targeted structure and continually attack it until they or the target has been destroyed.
    • Strike Aircraft attack a target once and immediately begin to withdraw.
    • Gunships circle around a targeted area for a limited time, firing their weapons at that spot.
    • Bombers follow a linear path set by the player, and attack all targets that they happen to come across.
  • As Defenders, Fixed-Wing Aircraft also behave differently:
    • As opposed to most other units, a number of Fixed-Wing Aircraft cannot be used for defense, with their icon explicitly mentioning they are "Locked for Platoon".
    • When a defensive aircraft is successfully deployed, they emerge off-screen and circle their respective Airfield, engaging anything they could hit. As with other defender units, they stay there for the rest of the battle or until they are destroyed themselves.

Trivia

  • All Fixed-Wing Aircraft have the Airstrike Role.
  • The Thunderbolt is the only Fixed-Wing Aircraft that does Armor Piercing damage without firing Solid Projectiles.
  • AC-19 Ares is the only Gunship that does not use a Ballistic Weapon. Rather, its primary is an explosive cannon.
  • Ghostrider is the only Gunship that cannot be used in Defense Platoons, although it can be seen as a defender in NPC Bases featured in events.
  • When destroyed, all aircraft will despawn immediately, producing an explosion and some sparks. This makes them the only units without a proper wreck model.
