General Information

The Raptor is a Tier 4 Fixed-Wing Aircraft, unlocked by reaching player level 51.

Weapons

The Raptor fires explosive missiles at a targeted spot, dealing damage to all ground targets caught in their area of effect.

Usage in Battle

The small and seemingly minor change is what makes Raptor so effective in action. Being able to damage targets in a medium area not only allows the Raptor to hit several at once, but also decimate ground forces that are unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast. It is especially effective when deployed in the middle of an assault, as friendly ground units can be directed to prioritize destroying air defenses, who in turn can be summoned to wipe out enemy defenders without worry and provide extra damage on remaining structures. Given the T4 tank Merkava is forced to pick between anti-air and anti-infantry, the Raptor allows flexibility, as one or two successful hits from Raptors can generally cripple if not obliterate many small targets at once while they are distracted by the tank. It is also a decent pick in air attacks, as Mi-28s can occupy Flak Guns, allowing it to destroy or heavily damage the turret and open up other options.

Raptors have, however, one significant weakness, that being its poor self defense. SAM Turrets are typically already avaliable at this point, and while not frequently used due to increasing the base' vulnerability, its range and damage means even large groups of Raptors won't be able to make it out with only one successful alpha strike. To a lesser extent, this applies for anything else that targets air as well, as its promotions don't give much health to begin with. This means it cannot be used to weaken a base before an assault, and the helicopters/tanks end up taking the burnt of the fire, which in turn leads to timing issues that greatly diminish its effectiveness. Its long refueling time means it's rare for them to be called more than once per attack and also make a miscalculation costly. Despite the splash damage being a great addition, it tends to be overshadowed in air attacks, as many helicopters already deal heavy splash damage that kill off groups of small targets easily, and eliminate large targets with such efficiency that they don't even need support from Raptors. As good as they are, players may want to focus on acquiring the F-35A and Ghostrider, as while it is serviceable, it doesn't add much when these two both do its job much more effectively.
