Based on the chassis of a T-72 tank the TOS-1 os a potent front line unit. Firing an almost continuous stream of artillery-grade rockets it can punch a hole through the toughest of defenses and its tank-grade armor makes it hard to stop.

General Information

The TOS-3 is a T3 Tank distinguished by its unique functionality, exclusively unlockable through blueprint acquisition in Events.

Weapons

The TOS-1 is able to fire salvos of explosive rockets that cause damage in a substantial AoE, followed by a reload period. It needs to fortify itself in order to attack, during which it is immobile, and after that it must undergo a teardown process before it can start moving again.

Usage in Battle

A radical approach to a tank, the TOS-1 serves as both a shield and a powerful frontline fighter. It has enough DPS to tear through many early-game defenses with terrifying ease while not being as vulnerable as the M270 Launcher with its superior durability. Its warhead options further expand its versatility, as it can choose between raining down widespread destruction or punch through barriers with extra strength and allow other units to advance easily. It can form an exceptional combination with many other units, most notably Light Vehicles, allowing them to exploit their speed while it keeps defenses occupied and battered.

Despite its promising applications, the TOS-1 quickly falls off. It is an okay tank and okay attacker, but any synergy with heavy vehicles in general are ruined by its unorthodox design. Its low range means it is forced to absorb fire and cannot function effectively as support, since no other T3+ tanks have lower range than it, and while it is tough, it is less durable than the T2 Abrams M1A1. The range disadvantage is most notable with defenses like Railguns and Howitzers, as it gets too close for comfort, allowing these defenses to eliminate other DPS units with terrifying ease. Its repeated setup animations can also be problematic, as it can't fire on the move and has to stop every time it needs to attack, which can result in a major reduction in DPS if it needs to reposition. As such, the TOS-1 ends up being a situational unit, outclassed easily by the M270 Launcher's range, Anti-Air secondary and overall reliability.
