Helicopters, known simply as Helis, Helos or Choppers, is one of the main unit categories in War Commander: Rogue Assault.

General Information

  • Helicopters are distinct from Fixed-Wing Aircraft. Any bonuses against "Aircraft" do not apply to Helicopters and vice versa. Similarly, SAM and Heavy SAM Turrets target "Aircraft", but ignore Helicopters.
  • They occupy space usually reserved for ground platoons and share their behavior, able to be directed around as long as they are present.
  • The main highlights of Helicopters include their high speed and ability to hover (hence easily invalidating threats that can greatly impede ground units, such Minefields, Barriers, Railguns and Peacemaker Mortars). However considerably less efficient in terms of DPS for the huge amount of space they occupy, and therefore must be used strategically.
  • Helicopters can be further diversified their roles:
    • Attack Helis specialize as DPS units, typically against enemy structures, and are likely the bulk of one's offense.
    • Gunship Helis are defense specialists usually armed with countermeasures however starting from the Osiris and above they become less defensive and become more offensive.
    • Support Helis these helis come with great health and several countermeasures options but lack damage.
    • Countermeasures, as the name implies, assists other units by destroying enemy projectiles. They are extremely limited un utility otherwise.

Trivia

  • When Helicopters are destroyed, they begin to rotate uncontrollably as they descend to the ground and crash, leaving behind a wreck that burns briefly. Their animations suffer from a number of glitches:
    • A destroyed Helicopter may turn invisible, completely preventing the animation from playing after the initial explosion, and will not leave a wreck on the ground. Sound effects may or may not play normally.
    • Sometimes the fire sprites won't load properly on the wreck.
